The American Kennel Club has a marvelous program, open to mixed breeds and purebreds alike. It's called the K-9 Good Citizen award. Any Novice dog could pass with ease. The simple exercises the dog is put through demonstrates he is a stable, under control, dog, weather at home or out in public. I am a certified CGC tester, and make sure the dogs who aspire to be Therapy Dogs have this award from AKC. At completion of the test, AKC will send a certificate and patch for the dog. AKC is to be commended for offering this award to all dogs, and people who care about them.
